Tonight was CHS's open house. I'm excited that I got to meet so many parents - I would have been lonely if no one had showed up to my room! I was talking with another teacher afterwords, though, and we both agreed - we need to assure everyone that if we were foaming at the mouth, we weren't rabid - we'd been talking for two hours straight! So... I hope you didn't have to witness that.
In class today we reviewed persuasive writing. We looked at the different strategies, CBLPEKR, which, aside from standing for some Greek terms, also means "Can't be lovin' pop, everyone keep rockin'!" Props to first period for coming up with that stellar acronym. We then divided into groups and looked for ways the strategies had been utilized by different advertisements. Remember, when writing your own persuasive paper you must state your claim CLEARLY, and while you shouldn't straddle the fence concerning your topic, you need to be aware of both the pros and the cons so you can both promote your own side, as well as address and refute the side you oppose.
Good news - the chunk tests did not arrive, so we will be taking it on Thursday, rather than tomorrow. I know you all are disappointed!
